Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Your journey begins in vibrant Marrakech, with an early departure toward the High Atlas Mountains. Cross the scenic Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, where dramatic views stretch over peaks and valleys. Visit the little-known Telouet Kasbah, once a seat of the powerful Glaoui family, then continue to the majestic Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage ksar that has served as a backdrop for numerous films and series. Reach Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert,” for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Amridil Kasbah – Rose Valley – Dades Gorge
After breakfast, visit Atlas Film Studios and the ancient Taourirt Kasbah before heading east to the Skoura oasis and the evocative Amridil Kasbah, framed by endless palm groves. Continue through Kalaa M’gouna, famed for its rose harvests, and arrive at the sculpted landscapes of the Dades Valley. Stop at the “Monkey Fingers” rock formations and enjoy panoramic viewpoints before settling into your boutique hotel for the night.
Day 3: Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
Depart for the towering Todra Gorges, where sheer canyon walls rise dramatically above the palm-lined riverbed. After time to walk the gorge and enjoy lunch en route, continue through Erfoud, known for fossil workshops, and arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. Ride a camel into the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi, stopping for sunset atop the sands. Your night is spent in a luxury desert camp, with dinner and live Berber music beneath the stars.
Day 4: Merzouga Exploration – Nomads – Khamlia – Flamingo Lake
Wake early to witness sunrise over the dunes — a serene, unforgettable experience. After breakfast, explore the Merzouga region by 4×4. Visit nomadic families in their traditional tents and learn about their desert way of life. Continue to Khamlia, a village known for its spiritual Gnawa music, then stroll through date palm groves and see the seasonal Lake of Merzouga, often home to migratory flamingos. Return to a hotel in Merzouga for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes
Leave the desert behind and travel northward. Visit the Rissani market, where traditions run deep, and continue to Erfoud. Pass through the Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s largest oasis networks, and stop for lunch in Midelt, nestled between the Middle and High Atlas. Journey onward through cedar forests, home to the Barbary macaques, and stop in Ifrane, a Swiss-style town known for its alpine charm. Reach Fes by evening.
Day 6: Guided Cultural Tour of Fes
With your private guide, dive into the spiritual and intellectual heart of Morocco. Highlights include the Royal Palace gates, the labyrinthine Fes el-Bali medina (UNESCO-listed), the Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, the tanneries, and the Al-Quaraouiyine University, the oldest in the world. Visit the Jewish quarter (Mellah) and enjoy panoramic views from the surrounding hills. Overnight in a traditional riad.
Day 7: Fes – Meknes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen
After breakfast, depart for Meknes, an imperial city with impressive architecture and history. Visit Bab Mansour, the Royal Granaries, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Then continue to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, once a thriving outpost of the empire, known for its mosaics and columns. In the late afternoon, ascend into the Rif Mountains to reach the blue-painted streets of Chefchaouen, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 8: Chefchaouen – Tangier Departure
